Betterplace is from Germany and at least half of the information and responses are in German. Otherwise it is much the same as Kiva. Kiva seems to be a much bigger site in terms of donors and recipients too.
Both make it easy to give small loans of say $25 to individuals or groups around the globe who have requested a loan for a specific purpose. Recipients are expected to pay back their loan amounts, then the return can be re-loaned to someone else.
Both are great ways to expand the participating bases of micro-credit.

I agree, Roy, Kiva is great. I’ve been using it for about a year now.
