AOL’s XDrive has not worked for me at all (caused quite a headache actually), Carbonite’s demo has worked great; UPDATE: Carbonite’s advertising is misleading. While one account might support multiple computers, one payment DOES NOT. Each computer (even if it’s simply a laptop with pretty much the same information that you have on your desktop) will require an additional subscription.

ProtectMyPhotos is almost a full backup system, supports many Office file formats, not just photos – but not all. You may want to check out Mozy – more in these two posts.

Thanks, Zoli. I tried Mozy, but it was way nore complicated than Carbonite. For one thing, I didn’t want to sit there fiddling with it to figure out which 2GBs to try with the free trial, too much hassle and it foreshadowed how the process later may be more complicated than necessary as well.
I really like that Carbonite signals (athough optional to turn this off) the backup status of each file with a dot on the file.
