Thanks for the thoughts on this. As I noted, for this upcoming position I will definitely post the salary in the ad. As to my original post, I hadn't planned on people getting in touch with me so that wasn't on my mind when I posted the entry. It's been a helpful experience.

Yes I too have found that overqualified issue. I have recently hired an assistant to help with the editing of a large manuscript. The fact that she is technically overqualified for the job has made her perfect - as she actually knows something about what we are writing. The fleible nature of the job is exactly what she needed right now, so I feel luck to have found her.

I think if you state up front what you need and what you are going to pay - then it shouldnt be an issue for a job like this. If you have to do a lot of training and want someone to stay around for a long time - then over qualified is not what you are looking for......

my 2 cents

Eszter, as for the original post, I think it's a perfect job for a student, you don't need a programmer type.

As for over qualification: for a temp gig like this I'd not hesitate to offer the "low price" you think it is worth: anyone applying will pretty much figure the nature of the job and what pay is should come with... if a PhD applies, so be it, he/she may have temporary circumstances for doing it, and it's OK.

In terms of long term hiring, and emplyment in general, I understand why emplyers hesitate: it's way too obvious to them that the applicant only wants to do it until a better option comes along. We've seen a lot of this in the Valley (SF Bay) in the tech bust years...
